Greene County district court, week ending Aug. 14

In Greene County district court Christopher Brian Long, 28, of Jefferson was granted a deferred judgment Aug. 14 on a charge of possession of marijuana. He was placed on informal probation for one year. He must undergo a substance abuse evaluation and complete any recommended treatment at his own expense. Long must pay a $315 civil penalty and restitution for his court appointed attorney not to exceed $600. Court costs were $140. (Sentencing: Honorable Joseph B. McCarville)

Matthew John Goff, 46, of Jefferson was sentenced to 180 days in jail after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of assault causing bodily or mental illness. All but 14 days of the jail time was suspended. He was placed on probation to Boone/Greene County Probation for one year. He was fined $315 with a $47.25 surcharge. Goff also changed his plea to guilty to a charge of trespass causing injury or damage greater than $300. He was fined $315 with a $47.25 surcharge. His ability to pay restitution will be determined at a hearing at a later date. Court costs were $100. (Sentencing: McCarville)

Persons pleaded not guilty at arraignments as follows: Jerry Eugene Miller, 36, of West Des Moines, burglary-third degree (two counts) and theft-second degree (two counts); Joseph Ray Thompson, 18, of Scranton, domestic abuse assault impeding air/blood flow causing bodily injury; Jon Mitchell Bushman, 43, of Scranton, criminal mischief- second degree; Cindy Marie Rowland, 46, of Jefferson, child endangerment; Richard Wayne Rowland, 54, of Jefferson, child endangerment (two counts); Brendan Robert James, 20, of Bouton, operating while intoxicated; Greta Darlene Halterman, 19, of Jefferson, OWI; Nicklaus Andrew Harrison, 21, of Forest City, assault causing bodily injury or mental illness, and carry weapons; Austin Michael Laverne Lindahl, 19, of Boone, OWI; Jon Mitchell Bushman, 43, of Scranton, OWI; Connor Laine Groves, 23, of Churdan, animal neglect causing death or serious injury; Jacob Thomas Monthei, 22, of Churdan, animal neglect causing death or serious injury; and Shayla Nicole Stephenson, 30, of Grand Junction, OWI and child endangerment. A trial date was set for Sept. 29 for Miller, and for Nov. 3 for all other defendants.

Cases were initiated in district court as follows: Justin Michael Goins, 39, of Lidderdale, domestic abuse assault causing injury or mental illness; Michael Marlin Matthews, 24, of Topeka, KS, assault on persons in certain occupation; and Kaleb Lee Lentz, 26, of Scranton, driving while license revoked.
